Quick Update

2011-12-13

Been a while since I have posted, but is has been a crazy past few months. Getting ready to add some more projects to my projects page and even working on a idea for a new site that I think is going to be really neat.

After four long months, I've finally got the new redesign up and running. Here are just a few of the new things you will see:

  • Totally redone CSS giving the site a new look
  • Comments powered by DISQUS (and all the features that come along with it)
  • Rewritten CMS allowing faster and more frequent blog posts
  • and much more coming soon

The site is about 98% complete right now with only a few minor features still being implemented. I plan to have the site completely finished with in the next two weeks.

System Downtime

2011-04-03

For the past week I haven't been able to get any work done on any of my projects or update the website thanks to a broken laptop charger (and of course all of my programs that I need to do anything are all on my laptop). I'm happy to report though that I got a new charger and am currently working again on the new site and a few projects.

Redesign

2011-03-20

Since www.thomassloan.net launched back in September 2010, I've learned a lot about CSS, HTML, ASP.Net, MySQL, and the list goes on and on and on. I have also come to realize that my site is becoming painfully harder to manage and update. It's not because I don't have the time or skills, but because when I first started designing the site I didn't plan anything. Images where thrown into one folder and some in another, pages where on the root and others in a folder 3 deep, I had several master and CSS pages but was only using one or two, and worst of all NOTHING was uniform. A page addition or update that should only take minutes was easily taking a hour or more. So I have decided to redesign the entire site, front to back, top to bottom. I have already began research other web sites for style and functional design. Looking over CSS templates and learning even more about ASP.Net. I want the new site to have not only a new look and feel, but a complete overhaul of the directory structure and coding. It will probably be a while before I launch the new site. I want to make sure that I get everything 100% this time before launch. Until then I will continue working and posting to this site.
